3 Truths For Which I Give Thanks
I didn't get a newsletter done the week of Thanksgiving. The short week just killed my ability to get a newsletter done. So, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge a few truths that I am
thankful for during this holiday season.
Here, then, is my BELATED THANKSGIVING list. I am thankful:
1. That despite all evidence to the contrary, my children cannot be sick forever!
Those of you with children will sympathize with this one. My three children have taken turns being sick for the past month. As I write this, my four-year-old is in the other
room with a fever, sore throat, and "stomachache" (a non-descript and fairly useless symptom from a four-year-old). I give thanks that this too shall pass.
2. That I stink at doing physical labor to earn a living!
I worked my way through college doing construction work for
my Dad in Montana. I don't know where it came from, but my Dad could run me into the ground. I might have been 19, but he kicked my tail on a regular and continuing basis. I admire my dad and everyone who
physically works hard for a living. But the truth is, that was not the life for me. Helping my clients (and the homeowners they represent) determine the real value of a house is, for me, a much better job than
building one.
3. That newspapers and the internet can only scare people so much!
People are scared right now. People are scared to buy a house, sell a house, or get a loan. There was a legitimate problem with some loans and some home sales over the past few
years. And, lucky us, the news media was around to blow that problem way out of proportion and scare everyone half to death.
Fortunately, people are still
buying houses, getting loans, and fulfilling their dreams. It may take a little more work, but when you build a relationship with a client, they will jump past fear into trust. Thank goodness people bounce
back just like my kids do from being sick, no matter what it might look like today.
Bottom Line: I'm thankful that I have a job that allows me the freedom to be a good Dad to my sick children,
to spend time with my wife, and to help people protect themselves and/or their investment in a house. Thanks to all of you for letting me do that.
